OD 22-036 Trainer Kevin Altig is fined $500.00 for being the trainer of record on sample #E536233 taken from ALWAYS A SHARK in the 5th race on July 10th, 2022 at Ocean Downs, was found to contain the drug Dexamethasone at a concentration of 29.3 pg/ml. The ARCI threshold for this therapeutic drug is 5 pg/ml. This was identified by Maryland Racing Commission laboratory Industrial Laboratories. At Altig’s request, a split sample was analyzed at RMTC-approved Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratories, which did confirm the presence of Dexamethasone. This is Altig’s third positive test in a two year span. As a result, Altig is fined $500.00, and must return all purse monies. Additionally, he will be issued a 120 day full suspension from September 25th, 2022 through January 22nd, 2023. During this suspension, he and all horses trained and/or owned by him are barred from the grounds, under the jurisdiction of the Maryland Racing Commission. ALWAYS A SHARK finished 1st and was placed last, and also will be placed on the steward's list from September 25th, 2022 through January 22nd, 2023 as well. All purse monies must be returned within 72 hours of this issuance, and all fines are due within 10 days of ruling.
