For Consumers - Professional Land Surveyors
Professional Land Surveyors is regulated in Maryland under the provisions of Business Occupations and Professions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, Title 15, and the Code of Maryland Regulations, Title 9, Subtitle 13.
In accordance with Maryland Law, a person may not represent to the public, by use of a title, “land surveyor”, “professional land surveyor”, “licensed land surveyor”, or “registered land surveyor”, in the name of the person’s business activity, by description of services, methods, or procedures. Similarly, a person may not represent to the public, by use of a title, including “licensed property line surveyor” or “property line surveyor”, or otherwise, that the person is authorized to practice land surveying in the State.
Before hiring or entering a contract with a design professional, the Board for Professional Land Surveyors strongly recommends verifying that the individual(s) or firm is currently licensed and in good standing. Furthermore, a person may not operate a business through which property land surveying or professional land surveying is practiced unless the entity holds a permit issued by the Board.
