For Consumers - Professional Engineers

Professional Engineering is regulated in Maryland under the provisions of Business Occupations and Professions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, Title 14, and the Code of Maryland Regulations, Title 9, Subtitle 23.

In accordance with Maryland Law, a person may not represent to the public, by use of a title, “engineer”, “professional engineer”, “licensed engineer”, or “registered engineer” without holding a current license in Maryland authorized to practice engineering in the State.

Before hiring or entering a contract with a design professional, the Board for Professional Engineers strongly recommends verifying that the individual(s) or firm is currently licensed and in good standing. Furthermore, a person may not operate a business through which engineering is practiced unless the entity holds a permit issued by the Board.
