Home Inspector Continuing Professional Competency - Real Estate Appraisers, Appraisal Management Companies and Home Inspectors

Requirements

All home inspectors are required to complete 30 hours of continuing professional competency education per license renewal term. However, the requirement does not apply to the first renewal of a home inspector license. If the license expires it will be considered a reinstatement. A licensee must complete 30 hours of continuing professional competency education and pay an additional $50 fee to reinstate a home inspection license.

Educational hours from a continuing professional competency course satisfy the requirement if the course is offered by the following providers: The American Society of Home Inspectors, The National Association of Home Inspectors, or any other provider approved by the Commission, and the Commission determines that the course increases the licensee's knowledge of the provision of home inspection services.

You may obtain a list of the educational providers approved to offer continuing professional competency courses - a complete listing of approved provider courses.

THE MANDATORY 30 HOURS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL BEFORE RENEWING YOUR HOME INSPECTION LICENSE.

NOTE: Per COMAR 09.36.08.02(C) Up to 30 percent of the total continuing professional competency hours required by §A of this regulation may be obtained in other than a classroom setting. A home inspection continuing professional competency course approved by the Maryland Commission of Real Estate Appraisers, Appraisal Management Companies, and Home Inspectors completed in a virtual, live and interactive format (not pre-recorded) fulfills the requirement as a classroom setting as per 09.36.08.02C.
