GED® Testing in Maryland - Adult Education and Literacy Services
REQUESTING A GED® TRANSCRIPT OR DUPLICATE DIPLOMA:
Go to the GED Testing Service website and click the Grads and Transcripts tab and follow the directions for obtaining an electronic or paper transcript or duplicate diploma. The FAQ for test takers and GED® Test Takers Parchment Support provide more information. Transcripts or diplomas cannot be picked up in person.
Current testers receive directions about obtaining their diploma and transcript via email immediately after passing the fourth module.
GED® GENERAL INFORMATION
- Visit the GED Testing Service website for information about the GED® test, preparation resources, registration and scheduling.
- Most authorized GED® test centers are now open for in-person computerized testing complying with all COVID-19 requirements.
- NEW: Securely monitored remote Online Proctored GED® tests (OP) for qualified testers 18 years old and older.
- NEW: Test Centers will not accept expired documents as Identification for in-person or remote testing. Current documents must verify identity and MD residency.
- All applicants under 19 years of age must provide proof of official school withdrawal or verification of home instruction.
- A Maryland High School Diploma is awarded to those passing all four modules of the GED® tests.
IMPORTANT PAYMENT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Testers must apply the Maryland Subsidy Discount Code offered to all Maryland testers for the first attempt of each module. The code is on the tester's Activity page as well as the MD Schedule GED® Test page. This code reduces the cost of the first attempt from $30.00 to $11.25 per module for in-person testing and from $36.00 to $17.25 for Online Proctored (OP) testing. The MD Discount Code is MDGED1875.
IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS CHANGES:
Testers are required to prove Maryland residency and must provide official, current identification at the test center. Acceptable forms of identification in Maryland are:
- A current official Maryland driver's license or current official Maryland learner’s permit issued by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA),
- A current official Maryland identification card issued by the Maryland MVA, or
- A current active duty military dependent’s ID card. (This is not accepted for Online Testing.)
- A valid Passport and a second document such as a recent utility bill, phone bill, bank statement, cable bill, or lease agreement.
Out of state licenses or expired documents will not be accepted. There are no ID waivers.
Testers will be turned away from test centers without acceptable documentation.
AUTHORIZED GED® TEST CENTERS : There will be limited seating due to distancing and other safety requirements. All test centers comply with Pearson VUE, GED®, and Maryland State guidelines regarding health regulations. Testers are required to adhere to those guidelines.
ONLINE PROCTORED (OP) GED® TEST: Eligible testers may take their exams remotely at home or in another location while securely monitored by a trained online proctor. Testers must have a Green score within the past 60 days on the GED Ready® Test module, must be 18 or older, must have a computer, webcam, Internet access, and a private room to qualify. Testers must provide acceptable identification documentation. There is a cost increase for OP testing but the Maryland subsidy applies to the first attempt of each module for both in-person and OP testing.

WARNING: GED® Testing Service, through Maryland's Department of Labor, is the ONLY official provider of a Maryland High School diploma earned through GED® testing.
