UMBC Training Centers’ Cyber Defense Training Program prepares participants for careers in Information Technology and cybersecurity by providing the technical skills, industry-recognized certifications, and professional competencies needed to enter the growing IT workforce. Developed in collaboration with senior executives and technical staff from the Department of Defense, leading government contractors, and Fortune 500 companies, the program is designed to address the ongoing shortage of qualified cybersecurity and IT professionals.
The program provides training in Systems Administration, Computer Networking, cybersecurity fundamentals, problem-solving, communication, and workplace professionalism. Participants gain hands-on technical knowledge aligned with current industry and Department of Defense workforce needs, preparing them for employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors.

In addition to the training above, we offer on-the-job training and work and learn opportunities at various businesses in Anne Arundel County.

Description: Per Scholas provides training in-demand IT fields, including Cybersecurity, IT Support, Salesforce Administrator, Healthcare IT and a Data Center Technician program. Key components of our training model will be the focus of the activities executed during the award period. These include:
Tuition-Free Technical Training: In just 13 to 15 weeks, participants complete training that rivals a two-year degree. Our model blends 80% technical training with 20% professional and soft skills development, equipping learners to earn industry-recognized credentials like CompTIA A+, Google IT Support, and AWS Cloud Practitioner.
Career Readiness & Job Placement Support: Our career coaching model includes resume and LinkedIn development, mock interviews, networking opportunities, and direct job placement assistance, ensuring graduates transition smoothly into the workforce. We also provide ongoing career advancement support for two years post-training.
Finullcial Stability & Wraparound Support: Many learners face economic barriers that make training difficult. To address this, Per Scholas provides finullcial coaching, Zero-Percent Loan (ZPL) assistance, transportation and living stipends, and mentorship, enabling learners to stay engaged and focus on achieving career success.
Workforce Pipeline Development: Per Scholas partners directly with major regional employers to ensure our training aligns with real-world hiring needs, helping businesses fill roles faster while expanding opportunities for Marylanders seeking upward mobility.

Description: The various funded trainings have prepared individuals with the skills necessary to obtain entry or mid-level employment in the cybersecurity and information technology fields. Trainings vary in length from weeks to months depending on the type and level of credential being sought. For example, in three months, students can complete their training and be prepared to test for a CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ credential.

Description: I'm Still Standing Community Development Corporation (ISSCDC) provides workforce training designed to prepare Maryland residents for careers in information technology and cybersecurity. The program combines technical instruction, hands-on learning, certification preparation, and career readiness support to help participants build the skills needed for entry-level IT positions.
Participants receive hands-on training in CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ certification pathways. Training covers computer hardware and software, troubleshooting, networking, cybersecurity fundamentals, and IT support skills commonly used in help desk, technical support, and entry-level cybersecurity roles.
In addition to technical instruction, participants receive career readiness support including resume development, interview preparation, job search assistance, and case management services to support long-term success. The program is designed to help participants build the technical knowledge, confidence, and professional skills needed to successfully enter the technology workforce.

Description: The F³-ACES Workforce Training Plan provides structured cybersecurity and IT workforce development training designed to prepare participants for entry-level through advanced cybersecurity careers. Participants are placed into one of two structured pathways:

Participants should reside in Maryland, with priority focus on Prince George’s County, Baltimore City, and Baltimore County service areas.
Age Requirement:
Participants should generally be 18 years of age or older at the time of enrollment.
Assessment Requirement:
All participants are assessed upon entry to evaluate their technical knowledge, work readiness, prior experience, and career interests to determine appropriate placement into foundational, intermediary, or advanced pathways.
Foundational Placement Requirement:
Participants with 0–2 years of cybersecurity or IT experience will generally begin in foundational-level training unless assessments demonstrate competency for advanced placement.
Advanced Placement Eligibility:
Participants with prior IT or cybersecurity experience may test into intermediate or advanced tracks based on demonstrated competency and assessment results.

Description: The BCR Cyber ICE-T Program provides free entry-level IT and cybersecurity training for eligible Maryland residents who are unemployed or underemployed. Participants receive training, hands-on lab experience, SOC simulation exercises, and certification preparation for CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, SOCOA I, and Fundamentals of AI in Cybersecurity. The virtual hybrid program lasts 6–8 months and includes one free exam voucher per certification.
