Dynamic Auto - Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Program (MATP) Success Story

Dynamic AutoDynamic Automotive changed its path when we partnered with Frederick County Public Schools, Frederick County Career and Technology Center and the State of Maryland by adopting Apprenticeship Programs. Being in the automotive repair and service industry, we have faced a decline of qualified people wanting to enter our industry. We have put a significant effort into mentoring new team members, but it was never truly successful. Even though we have spent years, decades, working on this, we still struggled to have a true plan that brought enough raw talent to our doors. That all changed when we made the decision to join the Maryland Family of Apprenticeship.

Once we committed to join, we went all in and the reward was greater then we ever expected. By joining both the Youth and Registered Apprenticeship Programs, we began a process which has become part of a career path we use to develop a team member’s future at Dynamic Automotive. The effects were felt right away. We were only working on developing the programs when word got out. We partnered with the CTC center to bring all 72 automotive students to one of our shops and took them for a tour of the quick lube, repair shop and car wash. We split them up into small groups and educated them on what it was like being a technician, all the different opportunities there is in the automotive industry, why we charge what we do, how we got in business and what it takes to stay in business. That week we had 6 applications from potential candidates wanting to join our team.

Fast forward over 2 years and we have come a long way. I tell people, Dynamic is a growing company. We plan to expand to give our team new opportunities and a brighter future. Our team is full and at times we have a waiting list of people wanting to join. We have graduated 4 youth apprentices and currently have 2 in the program. We have a 91.9% retention rate for those in the youth program which backs up the states claim that 92% of apprentices stay. Our registered program is truly growing our next group of technicians that will allow us to grow organically and through expansion. We are currently signing up our 5th registered apprentice and we have retained 100% of them. We are in the final stages of building a new 8 bay shop and we have the talent in the company to staff it with qualified team members. Apprenticeship has made a huge difference in our ability to grow our company and take advantage of a great economic climate.
